Hyper Laser Beam of Focus

By Will Brackenbury on April 7, 2012

I’m a self-improvement junkie. Not that I can’t quit–I just don’t want to. In any case, for you who want the benefits of self-improvement without a lot of lame affirmations, here’s your solution: a laser beam of focus. It’s not a literal laser beam. But,if you focus on a problem long enough, usually the laser of focus can dissect the problem into something you can fix.

So, how can you use this? Well, according to Huna philosophy, “Energy flows where attention goes”, or “What you focus on, expands”. This has two sides. Let’s begin with the idea of focus.

Often the reason that we don’t fix problems is because we either don’t care enough, or we want to be blind to it. Perhaps you have a difficult time remembering appointments, but you just tell people, “that’s how I am,” and don’t try and work on it. Well, to correct the problem with your focus laser, create notes such as “review appointments for tomorrow” in a spot where you see them every day. Because you have given the problem more weight, then your brain is able to deal with it better, and you remember your appointments.

As for the second aphorism: if what you focus on expands, focus on the positive. If you have trouble remembering names, and you continually think about how you’re terrible with names, then you’re going to be terrible with names. But, if you focus on how you want to improve, or how you’re already doing better, then, magically, you’ll find yourself remembering names more, because you have given more importance to the issue. Again, it’s just using your focus laser.

This doesn’t just fix problems of memory. If you tend to shout when you get angry, and your significant other hates that, then write down how your partner likes it when you stay calm as you get upset. If you pay attention to this, your mind will associate the two, so that, when you get angry, you immediately want to calm down.

Summary: Keep a journal and Focus on the positive. You’ll find problems disappearing in no time.
